Sometimes I begin to wonder why a big company like PayPal should not be in all countries. Over the Years, I have not being able to figure out why PayPal should not be available to countries like Bangladesh, Belarus, British Indian Ocean Territory, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Georgia, Ghana, Haiti, Lebanon, Macedonia, Moldova, Monaco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Serbia and Montenegro, Uzbekistan, and Zimbabwe.

PayPal Not for Everybody
Even some of the African Countries Listed on PayPal do not have total freedom of usage for most PayPal services. Check Out the services available to most countries here.
Almost all the African countries listed in PayPal can only send money but cannot receive or withdraw from PayPal account. It is only PayPal that can explain the reasons behind these entire dichotomies in the usage of their services.
Is it not high time that IMF and World Bank Should intervene in this issue, instead of borrowing our countries huge sum of money, let them help us to improve small scale internet businesses. The unavailability of effective e-commerce solutions for African Entrepreneurs is really affecting economical growth in most underdeveloped countries of the world not just Africa.
It is obvious that PayPal is yet to recognize the vast market potential in Africa with particular reference to Nigeria.
On the other hand, this is a challenge to African Countries to provide themselves with effective solutions to their problems. Let us not just wait for the westerners to do everything for us.
It is time we rule our own world.
We have all it takes to build a e-payment company that will be much better than PayPal.
It is obvious that PayPal is not in Africa due to the – dislike the westerners have on us. They are only interested in out Oil. PayPal is not in Nigeria. What reasons will PayPal give for not been in Nigeria? It is not just PayPal; Nigeria is not listed in most payment sites. Times without number, I have been denied access to purchasing many ebooks and software even with my credit card.
I agree with my friend Gabriel Ogah who opined that the “the west knows that e-commerce will help educated Africans to escape poverty and enable them to challenge their corrupt leaders. Corrupt African leaders keep the continent in bondage to the west and make it perpetually dependent. All the new payment systems like ClickBank and AlertPay of Canada do not recognize African Banks. The best way out of this financial marginalization of Africa is for the continent to develop its own robust search engines like Baidu and Alibaba of China and its own e-payment platforms”
What do you expect the Nigerian Youth to do online when you deny him the opportunity of doing affiliate marketing and selling his own products on the internet? He will end up doing Yahoo Yahoo a.k.a 419
Without us Africans developing our own e-payment solution, we will continue to be technologically marginalized by the westerners.
You just hit the nail on the head. It is really sad cos I am a Nigerian who just started an online business and I use paypal. I was shocked when I noticed Nigeria was not listed. I really pray that we do something for ourselves because its really frustrating.
This is really true. I’m from Ghana and was shocked to know some countries in Africa were not having PayPal. This issue should be taken into consideration and rectified
I can’t really fathom what is actually wrong with a big company like PayPal. They ought to be in every country. Perhaps this is a great challenge for Africans to come up with their own indigenous Paypal alternative. It must not be Paypal
